How to turn newsletter content into quizzes and polls

A practical workflow for adapting an article into a short, accurate Quiz or reader poll without writing a second story from scratch.

A useful newsletter Quiz does not need a new reporting process. The strongest raw material is often the story your team has already edited, fact-checked, and scheduled to publish.

Atrivial turns that existing source material into playable questions and reader polls. The goal is not to replace the article. It is to give readers a quick way to participate in it.

Start with the article, not a blank prompt

Paste the article text, provide a webpage URL, or connect the publication’s RSS feed. Atrivial uses that source as the factual boundary for the draft, so the Quiz can stay tied to what the newsroom actually published.

A focused source produces a better result than a broad topic. A story about a new transit plan, for example, can support questions about its route, timeline, cost, and affected neighborhoods. “Transportation” alone leaves too much room for unrelated trivia.

Choose the interaction the story deserves

Use trivia when the source contains facts with a defensible correct answer. Use a poll when the value is hearing what readers think, prefer, or plan to do. A reported claim should not become an opinion poll, and an open question should not be forced into a false right answer.

  • Trivia: test a specific fact stated in the source.
  • Poll: invite a preference, prediction, or reaction.
  • Mixed Quiz: teach first, then ask readers where they stand.

Review the draft like a small editorial package

Check every key against the article, make sure each distractor is clearly wrong, and remove questions that depend on wording tricks. The explanation after an answer should add context instead of merely repeating the key.

Keep the experience short enough to finish in one sitting. A compact set of clear questions creates a natural bridge back to the full story; an exhaustive test competes with it.

Publish alongside the story

Once reviewed, the Quiz can appear in newsletter HTML, open as a hosted play link, or run as a website embed. The article remains the source of depth. The Quiz becomes the invitation to engage with it.
